Saratoga Springs-Sharon Ramona Blackwell Bamberger died on December 14 at the age of 90 at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga. Born in 1930 she was the daughter of the late Richard Joseph and Georgia Oliver Blackwell, New Haven, IN, where she grew up. She attended Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne, IN, graduating in 1948. She received her BA degree from the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, MI, in 1952, where she majored in English literature. After college she worked for a short time for the Lincoln National Bank in Fort Wayne before moving to Washington, DC, to work for the Central Intelligence Agency, where she met her future husband. Sharon left Washington to attend the Graduate School of Education at Indiana University, Bloomington, where she received her teaching certificate. Several months later Sharon traveled to Honolulu, HI to teach and to marry her husband Richard, who was stationed there in Naval Intelligance. Returning to the mainland, she lived in Ilion, Delmar, and Castleton,NY. Sharon worked for Welcome Wagon, was a girl scout leader, a member of the Castleton Study Club and the Schodack Garden Club. She also served as Castleton Historian, was a member of the Rosary Socety, a religious education teacher for Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member. She had a great sense of humor and had numerous funny stories of growing up in a big family. She will be remembered for her friendship, love, and kindness. She enjoyed many years of traveling in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard E. Bamberger and four children: Christine Sharon Bamberger of Jersey City, NJ and her partner Tim Hunt; Elisabeth Oliver Carroll (Stuart) of Olney, MD; Richard Blackwell Bamberger (Patricia Zeigler) of Brimfield, MA; and Joseph Marshall Bamberger (Kathryn Little) of Albany, NY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Stuart Michael and Anne Elisabeth Carroll; Richard Russell and Emily Keil Bamberger; and Cecile Philomene (Nina), Georgianna Sharon, and Albert Marshall Bamberger. In addition, Sharon was predecesed in death by her siblings Richard O. Blackwell, Carroll D. Blackwell, Charles Blackwell, Georganna Langhorst, Marilyn Z. Heiny, Rosamond J. Dehner, and Patricia A. Gotta. She has twenty-three nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:00 on January 6 at Sacred Heart Church in Castleton. In lieu of calling hours, there will be a memorial gathering at a later time. Burial is in the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga, NY. The family extends its sincere appreciation to the caregivers at the Home of the Good Shepherd for their loving and constant care for Sharon.
