Obituary of Julia Ann Ewert

Please share a memory of Julia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Julia Ann (Walter) Ewert went home to the Lord on May 13, 2022, after a long courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Julia was born on January 4, 1950, to her loving parents Johnnie & Rosie Walter in Huron, South Dakota.  She grew up, moving often, in South Dakota and Nebraska, always caring for her much loved younger brothers.  After meeting during Bible College, Julia married the great love of her life, David Allen Ewert, on August 1, 1970.  In their over 51 years together they called many places home, including:  Everett, WA, Champaign, IL, Winston, OR and most recently, Castleton, NY.  Julia spent her life in service to her Lord as a pastor’s wife, Bible teacher, writer, organizer, mother to their daughter, grandmother to her beloved grandsons, and friend & mentor to so many.  Julia is survived by her husband, daughter & son-in-law Jennifer (Ewert) & Dirk Gieser, grandsons Jashton, Tobiah & Corban, as well as her brothers Jerroll (& Karen) Walter, and Harvey Walter, and her loved nieces and nephews.  A viewing will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, May 19th, at Castleton Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Avenue, Castleton  and a memorial celebration of her life will be at 11 am on June 18th, at Emmanuel Reformed Church, 1150 Maple Hill Road, Castleton, NY.

Memorial Project in honor of Julia Ewert

The family of Julia Ewert asks that you consider giving to the following special project in her name: Construction of a Chapel Hall at the Jamjing Children's School in Northeast India.

The children's school is sponsored by the Leadership Training Centre led by Pastor Steward Yanao. The children's school is unique in that the teaching staff is Christian but the student population is 98% Hindu in culture and affiliation. The Chapel Hall is a ministry need at the school so that the children have a place set apart to learn God's word and come to worship and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

For Julia Ewert, a chapel where the children learn to pray and are taught God’s word so that one day they know Him as Lord and Savior would be a wonderful, wonderful thing! Much of Julia’s life was given to discipling little children in the ways of the Lord. She was a preschool teacher, Sunday School teacher, directed children’s church and Bible club programs, helped start a Bible camp for children, and of course, thoroughly enjoyed helping her three grandsons love Jesus. A special delight for Julia was to teach young girls how to host a tea party, and where Jamjing is located is the heart of tea-growing country!

In addition to all of that, Julia herself was a woman of the word and loved to worship the Lord Jesus. Julia wrote in the flyleaf of her Bible what she hoped would be said of her at the end of her life: “With respect to the promise of God, Julia did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, being fully assured that what God had promised He was also able to perform" (from Romans 4:20-21). Julia loved to find wayside chapels or visit chapels on camp and school grounds for prayer.

So, it is our delight to establish a special memorial fund at Emmanuel Reformed Church for construction of the Jamjing School Chapel. We encourage one and all who want to give something to the ministry of the Gospel in honor of Julia's life to contribute generously to that fund. We hope and pray that with God’s help we will be able to help build that chapel soon.

Contributions can be mailed to Emmanuel Reformed Church, 1150 Maple Hill Rd., Castleton, NY 12033. Please mark your contribution "Julia Ewert Memorial." We encourage contributions to this project in lieu of flowers. Thankyou.
